Willys was the largest supplier of jeeps to the us army. The nick name jeep actually came from the army reference of these as general purpose or gee pee vehicles, which evolved into jeep. This military version m38 1/4 ton truck has had an extensive frame off restoration. Full canvas top and side curtains and complete with shovel and siren. 1951 - 52 is considered to have been the best all around production year. The M38 was a military version of the then-current civilian Jeep CJ-3A. The M38 differed from the CJ-3A in numerous ways, including a reinforced frame and suspension, waterproof 24-volt electrical system, sealed vent system for the engine, transmission, transfer case, fuel system and brake system. The engine was 134.2 cubic inches with 60 hp (45 kW) at 4000 rpm.
