The Teardrop trailer, also known as a teardrop camper gets it name from the shape and profile it uses. These compact and lightweight trailers first became popular in the 1930s due in part to the plans for them being published in commonly read magazines. Typically 4 or 6 feet wide and 8 to 10 feet long, they are compact and very light weight. Usually weighing 1000lbs or less, they can be pulled by almost any auto with minimal additional fuel cost. The compact trailers comfortably accommodate 2 adults with room to sleep, storage for cloths or personal items, and a small kitchenette. The popularity diminished in the 1960s, but have became increasingly popular again after the 1990s when plans become more readily available online.
